What makes a Terrorist?
You see it on the morning news, another suicide bomber. It's become such a common occurrence, I can't help but wonder what causes a person to strap explosives to their bodies and blow themselves up to kill innocent people? What drives the atrocities that we see terrorists commit; the kidnappings, the beheadings and murder? If you look, you'll soon find that Islam is tied closely to their motivations. With few exceptions, every major terrorist organization is Islamic in nature. Is Islam really the cause though? Could it be that these people are merely using religion as a crutch to promote their hatred? Not every Muslim is a terrorist, so could it really be true that Islam is a religion of peace? That is the message that we are getting from the media. Even many of the conservatives are telling us that the terrorists are twisting Islam and do not truly represent the religion. I fail to see the truth in this. Islam is not a religion in the same league as Christianity or Judaism. First of all, you don't see many Christians and Jews flying suicide missions into buildings. Islam seems to have a corner on the market when it comes to terrorists. With a little light research you find that violence is written into Islam, the same way that love is written into Christianity. Muslims are told to destroy their enemies whereas Christ says to love them. There will always be those that misuse religion for their own purposes. In Christianity though, a person must ignore most of the Bible and take the rest out of context to find justification for their gross violence. A Muslim need only pick up the Koran and read. I believe that Islam has a way of bringing out the worst in an individual, and so it breeds terrorists like a rabbit breeds offspring.
It troubles me that so many are afraid to say anything bad about Islam. It seems that many are afraid to come out and say that some beliefs are wrong and there is truth that wins over them. I do not hate Muslims, nor do I wish to mistreat them or try to eradicate them from the world. I only believe that we, as a nation, must understand the threat that Islam itself is to the world or we will never be able to win a war on terror. As Christians we have to understand these things to show them there is a better way. The way of new life in Jesus Christ.
